How do you lift the sterring wheel higher on a trek bike i have the 4100 version?

Hi i dont know how to lift the sterring wheel higher on my trek 4100 it is about 5 years old but im sure it doesnt matter and will be the same on all treks any ideas i have tried using an alan key to loosen it from the top but it just pulls out a screw that does nothing.

Actually, the screw does do something; it's the means by which you adjust the preload on the headset bearings. When you replaced it, I hope you didn't crank it down tightly. While doing so won't affect the headset now, it can potentially destroy the nut that is installed inside the steerer tube.

Like Bob said, unless you currently have spacers on your steerer tube above the stem, you'll be in the market for a stem with more positive rise. Best bet is to go to your local shop and have them fit you for a different stem. You'll get the right item...professionally installed.

If you have spacers above the stem and are mechanically inclined, you can raise your bar height yourself.
