When replacing graphics card, when computer is disconnected from power , do i need anti-static wrist strap?
Since the computer has no electricity supply, does static still occur? Is it critical to wear one, cause I have no idea where to get one.
Disconnecting the mains ungrounds the computer, which makes static buildup *much* worse. Professionals always work on computers with them plugged in. Note that you must either turn the power supply itself off (turning the computer off is not enough) or use a cord that only connects the ground wire.
If you are not 100% sure you can shut the computer all the way off with it plugged in, then you have to be extra careful about static. The power cord provides a way for the computer to drain static, and disconnecting it makes static accumulation worse.
A wrist strap is not needed. Just don't move around while you're working on the computer, and before you start work, touch a meta part of the case. If you do need to move around, put all parts down, move around, touch the metal case again, and then start picking parts up again.
