Is it possible to sharpen a craft knife?
I really need to cut out some small pictures for an art project and I just got my craft knife out, and it has gone not as sharp as it used to be. Blunt craft knifes don't work and are dangerous. And if not, how would I go about throwing it away without rubbish persons injuring themselves?
YES, you can sharpen a craft-knife like the X-acto. HOWEVER, I've found it is just SO much simpler to buy replacement blades in bulk. Also, typically, I've found that the tip of the blade often has "snapped", so sharpening is impractical.
IF you want to sharpen your blade, go to a kitchen or hardware store and buy the finest sharpening stone you can find. I did this for YEARS.
Regarding disposal, I usually store the used blades inside plastic 35mm film can, and dispose of them inside a flattened tin-can that I put in my recycling.
GOOD LUCK, and always wear SAFETY glasses, because there is little worse than a chipped knife tip getting in your eye... I KNOW.
