what is the difference between the normal pool lifeguard qualification and the sta pool life guard?
the sta pool life guard is the ; STA Certificate for the National Rescue Standard – Pool Lifeguard .
I live in scotland so maybe sta stands for scottish something and another .
would potential employers prefere one to another
I just Googled STA, which is the Swimming Teacher's Association, not 'Scottish' anything.
They list their course syllabuses, and as far as I can tell, their 'National Rescue Standard – Pool Lifeguard' course does not offer any skills training which is not included in the RLSS NPLQ syllabus (to the best of my recollection).
HOWEVER
In addition to the common course content, the STA lists wound dressing (bandaging, slings) and spinal injury rescue training as optional training modules (i.e. not necessarily taught as part of the core course). Under the NPLQ syllabus this skills training is mandatory (or at least, it was the last time I completed it, which admittedly is a while ago now). On this basis, an employer would probably prefer the RLSS certification, since it is more complete in itself.
