Between 2000-1 and 2008-9, average household water consumption in unmetered households in England increased by 1 litre from 149 to 150 litres per person per day (an increase of less than 1 per cent).
Metered household water consumption decreased by 5 litres from 132 to 127 litres per person per day (a decrease of about 4 per cent) over the same period.
For unmetered households, those supplied by Thames Water and Northumbrian South consumed the most water (163 litres per person per day) in 2008-9. Metered household consumption was highest in Northumbrian South (147 litres per person per day). It should be noted that usage data may not be comparable between regions.
